Off the back of a smart half-length barrier trial win recently, four-year-old Lonhro mare Vanilla Princess headed to Kembla Grange on Friday, October 17 to contest the Mount Franklin Maiden Plate over 1200m.

Starting the race favourite the blue-blooded mare settled in the lead for jockey Winona Costin and was simply too classy, taking the race by two-and-a-half lengths from Ziggy Willie with a further four-and-a-quarter lengths to the third horse Diggler.

A winner of the Listed Illawarra 2YO Classic as well as a third place in the Group Two Furious Stakes behind Mnemosyne and Media, Snippets mare Permissive is out of the Chief’s Crown mare In Confidence, a half-sister to the Group One Golden Slipper winner and successful sire Danzero.

The first foal out of the four-time Group One-winning Encosta de Lago mare, the Evergreen Rich (Mgrs: A W Bott, P K Siu, M Siu & E Siu)-owned mare is a valuable commodity, especially for when she retires to stud after her racing career.

Evergreen Stud Farm will consign four lots at the 2015 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, all fillies by exciting sires Street Cry, Medaglia d’Oro and Lonhro, as well as a first crop yearling by Sepoy.

Lot 373: Brown, filly Medaglia d’Oro x Lady Jakeo

An impressive filly out of the Group One Australia Stakes and Group One Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lady Jakeo, already the dam of the Group Three winner Red Arrow and the Hong Kong Group Three winner Able Choice. Also the dam of Miss Jakeo, who is in turn the dam of the Group One Oakleigh Plate winner Mrs Onassis, this filly is by El Prado’s Group One-winning and producing son Medaglia d’Oro. Lot 445: Bay, filly Sepoy x Miss Alabama (NZ)

From the first crop of the World Champion Three-year-old Sprinter Sepoy, a winner of four Group One races including the Golden Slipper and the Blue Diamond, this filly is out of the Woodman mare Miss Alabama, a half-sister to the stakes performer Tchaikovsky. The dam of three to race including the stakes placed pair of Territorial Waters and Back Off, this filly comes from a pedigree that includes not only local black type but has an international flavour as well. Having broken her maiden impressive almost three weeks prior, four-year-old mare Vanilla Princess headed to Randwick to contest the fifth race of the day, the McGrath Estate Agents over 1200m.

Ridden once again by Winoa Costin, the Gai Waterhouse-trained mare settled behind the leader in the run and like her last start, she was too powerful on the line, taking the race narrowly by a long neck margin to Pretty In Paris with a long neck back to Rahy Storm in third.

Bred and raced by Evergreen Stud, Vanilla Princess is the first foal of the Group One Kelt Capital Stakes (twice), Group One New Zealand Oaks and the Group One Stoney Bridge Stakes-winning Encosta de Lago mare Princess Coup. By Darley’s Champion sire Lonhro, Vanilla Princess has now produced two nice consecutive victories for her connections.

Her second foal, a colt by Redoute’s Choice named Thewizardofoz is currently an unraced three-year-old by produced the goods the day prior to Vanilla Princess’s win, scoring by five lengths in a 1200m Randwick Barrier trial.

From the first-crop of Evergreen Stud Farm’s stallion Where’s That Tiger (above), three-year-old filly Tiger Quest recorded her third victory recently in South Africa.

Having only had eight career starts, the filly had five starts as a two-year-old, finishing runner-up on debut before then heading to stakes company and finishing second in the Group Two South African Nursery to Virgo’s Babe, the same filly that defeated her on debut. Winning her next two starts, both at Vaal, the Dominic Zaki-trained filly then was unplaced in the Group One Thekwini Stakes at Greyville.

Resuming in August, not all went to plan with the filly finished down the track before the filly returned to the track almost two months later for a narrow third at Vaal.

Heading to Turffontein on November 2, the talented filly was too good for Jackodore and Summer Adieu.

Purchased from the draft of Evergreen Stud at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for $350,000 by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the Fastnet Rock x Permissive colt was later sold recently at the Hong Kong International Sale.

Knocked down to Liang Yum Shing Howard for HK$6.7million (A$950,355), it was a significant return on investment from his yearling purchase price.

Permissive has had two foals to race, both winners and the current two-year-old Kinsman, by Street Cry is yet to race and she will be represented in the 2014 Magic Millions yearling Sale by Lot 642, a bay filly by Redoute’s Choice.

With only four yearlings consigned, it was great for Evergreen Stud Farm to be the third leading vendor on yearling sale average price at the 2014 Magic Millions Yearling Sale. With an overall average achieved of $206,875, all the staff at Evergreen Stud Farm should feel very excited about the results achieved for our draft. Taking the quality of quantity approach, Evergreen Stud Farm’s top lot went the way of Western Australian trainer Neville Parnham who secured Lot 380 for $315,000. By Champion Sire Exceed And Excel out of the Octagonal mare Family Breakup, this colt is a half-brother to the Group Three winner Divorces ad the Listed winner Disputes. Gai Waterhouse Racing and James Harron Bloodstock went to $280,000 to purchase Lot 606, our Medaglia d’Oro filly out of the Fantastic Light mare Mysterious Light. Closely related to Fastnet Rock, this filly is bred in the “purple” and we are excited about watching her progress. Complete results: Lot 380: B. C. On Boxing Day at Royal Randwick, the Anthony Cummings trained Mary Lou (Fastnet Rock x Miss Alabama) produced an impressive length and three quarter win when racing first up this time in (pictured below).

Recording her second career win, the victory gave a pedigree boost to her half-sister, Lot 445 Sepoy x Miss Alabama who heads to January’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.

From the first yearling crop of Darley’s champion 2yo and 3yo, Sepoy was a winner of four Group 1 races including the elusive Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper double, as well as defeating the older Sprinters in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Lot 445 is the final of our Magic Millions draft to go through the ring and is the out of a Woodman half-sister to the stakes placed Tchaikovsky. Already the dam of three winners including the pair of stakes performers Territorial Waters and Back Off, this filly comes from a family that includes international stakes winners Northern Premier, Take The Raise, Cloud Harbor and Madame Premier.

A draft of three yearlings were offered by Evergreen Stud Farm at this year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, and it was great that all three were secured.

The first of the three to sell was the extremely well-bred Street Cry filly out of Emancipationist (Lot 220), who is herself a daughter of stakes- placed Danehill mare Cirque du Soleil, a full sister to Champion Sire Fastnet Rock.

Purchased by Irish Farm Airlie Stud for $280,000, the filly (pictured above) has a classy pedigree and with and further black-type added to it, will see her as a very valuable broodmare commodity down the track.

The next of our draft went through the ring a day later with Lot 373, a filly by Medaglia D’Oro out of the dual Group 1 winner Lady Jakeo knocked down to Western Australia’s Julie Love for only $155,000.

The final lot from the draft was Lot 445, a filly by first season sire Sepoy, an extremely exciting prospect. Out of the winning Woodman mare Miss Alabama, the filly was knocked down to Darby Racing and Gai Waterhouse Racing for $110,000.

Tony Bott’s boutique Evergreen Stud Farm at Heatherbrae has an excellent record of producing the type of racehorse buyers love. The BTC T.J. Smith-Gr.1 winner Sizzling (Snitzel- Admirelle by General Nediym), who has earnings of $1.3m, was sold off the farm and other graduates include Gr.1 placed, Listed winner Run for Naara (More Than Ready-Kristopher Street (USA) by Kris S), Gr.2 winner Happy Galaxy (Nadeem-Seven Stars by King’s Best (USA)) as well as several Listed winners in the past few.

Evergreen Stud’s yearling manager, Andrew Russell, believes the core reason for these successes is the climate on the farm. “The beauty of this property is that it is basically drought proof, which allows us to feed consistently all year around. This results in consistent growth on our young horses, which of course means they have good solid bones, resulting in long term soundness,” Russell said. “The other key factor is that we have dedicated, experienced staff and because we provide the whole range of bloodstock services, our staff can follow a horse on our property from birth through yearling preparation, breaking in, pre-training and racing agistment.

Then when a client’s horse retires to stud, we continue the cycle with the knowledge and understanding of the horse’s specific needs.”

Marquee Stud acted as agent for Evergreen Stud’s four Inglis Classic Yearling Sale – Summer Book entries this year and sold three of our four.

Victorian trainer Ken Keys, the trainer of exciting sprinter Rich Enuff, purchased Lot 106 – the Dream Ahead x Fujisawa filly for $30,000 – pictured above.

From the first Australian-crop of Emirates Parks exciting sprinting son of Oasis Dream in Dream Ahead, the filly is a closely related to Japan’s Group 1 winner Furioso and looks to have great residual value.

Darley’s first season sire Poet’s Voice, a son of Champion stallion Dubawi was the sire of the next yearling we sold. Presented as Lot 215, the Poet’s Voice x Luanda colt was knocked down to Lutom Enterprises Pty Ltd for $15,000.

A handful of lots late the Domesday Day x Marina Belle filly (Lot 232) was passed in, before Lot 434 the Ad Valorem x Summerset Miss colt, on the final day of the sale went to Inglis As agent for $15,000.

With two yearlings sent down to the Inglis premier Yearling Sale as part of the Berkeley Park Stud draft, only Lot 219, the Magic Albert x Iltizaam filly (image above) found a home.

Purchased by respected judge Paul Moroney Bloodstock, the first foal of Exceed And Excel mare Iltizaam, herself a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Sharnee Rose and the stakes placed Zaffaan was the top priced filly sold by her sire at the sale.
